Before you jump in

Freeciv-web is an open-source civilization-building strategy game. Begin with a single-player game against AI to learn settlers, cities, production and research. Its website also offers regular multiplayer, hotseat, play-by-email and LongTurn games. These modes have different schedules and joining requirements; LongTurn is designed around much slower turns than a live session.
